The Fourier transform translates between convolution and multiplication of functions.
Model Deconvolution. The modern combine is a marvel. It can digest literally tons of biomass in an hour, sorting that biomass into clean grain measured by a grain flow sensor. Material other than grain goes out the back as chaff.
Cubic convolution generalizes bilinear interpolation. The sixteen blue cells surrounding each yellow cell determine the interpolated value.

In ArcInfo, the GRID function RESAMPLE supports resampling of raster data using Cubic Convolution, Bilinear Interpolation, Nearest Neighbor Assignment, and custom "Nearest Data" assignment methods. resolution 1.
