Drape An Image to 3D Surface
Open the 3D DEM or Grid file to display in R2V
Open the image (any image, including a map, aerial photo, or satellite image) you want to drape on the 3D surface.

Drape: Involves laying features over a digital terrain model to provide information on features that lie on the terrain. Ther terrain model provides the shape of the terrain.

Drape the Image on your terrain
For our next trick, we are going to Explode our terrain component into its component parts so that it is no longer a component. Then we are going to Explode the image which has a little different meaning.

Draped Views. The ultimate display is usually one in which we register or "drape" a surface image, such as a Landsat scene, onto the DEM array (data cells match with pixels), ...

Drape data layers.. for example, drape an elevation map over a 3D topo scene.
Oen KML/KMZ files directly in ArcMap

In order to drape features, even if those features are part of the surface model defining the 3D scene, it is necessary to specify the 3D Properties (base heights and/or extrusion and/or rendering) for each draped layer.

Objective 2: Drape classified land cover over DEM
Although Vistapro renders lifelike landscapes using elevation alone by assigning different vegetation types to user-specified elevation ranges (Fig. 1), ...

In the past, in remote areas, there was often no base topographic map available, so the geologist also needed to be a competent surveyor to produce a map of the terrain, on which the geological information could then be draped.

The overall aesthetic map draped on the 3D terrain surface in the center is analogous to calculating net profit-revenue (think Pretty) minus expenses (think Ugly).

Drape an image or mosaic over a digital terrain model to create an accurate, seamless 3D image scene that depicts your project in the most lifelike manner possible with real life textures and conditions.

Nowadays, the well-known old drape function does not satisfy the users (mostly architects) especially in urban environment, they need the visualization of blocks representing houses and other buildings, trees, etc.

Drape two-dimensional data on a surface or globe.
Extrude data into walls and lines in your 3D objects.
Dynamically view data from Internet map services.
View a scene from multiple viewpoints using different viewers.

Joining NovAtel in the Series B round of financing for Brilliant were Onset Ventures, Asset Management, Draper Associates, Draper Richards, and additional strategic investors.

For example, if a road feature layer and an orthophoto are draped over the same terrain model, the roads and raster may appear patchy or broken up where they coincide.

Alternatively, you could use DEMDRAPE and POV-Ray or SDTSTER2 and Terragen to do the same thing with more flexibility but it takes a little more expertise to work these programs correctly.

Hybrid: Combination of two different formats together. For example, a vector data overlay draped on top of a raster image.
Hydrology: Map data that describes the positions and characteristics of bodies of water.

For example, a series of x, y and z points that have a virtual layer draped over their surface can form a 3 Dimensional Image. Digital elevation models are typically used to represent terrain relief. Also referred to as 'digital terrain model' (DTM).

Using ArcGIS 3D Analyst, you can view a surface from multiple viewpoints, query a surface, determine what is visible from a chosen location on a surface, create a realistic perspective image that drapes raster and vector data over a surface, ...

drape A perspective or panoramic rendering of two-dimensional features superimposed on a surface. DTM Digital terrain model. See digital elevation model. DXF Data Exchange Format. A format for storing vector data in ASCII or binary files.
