easting
See Also: northing
[coordinate systems] The distance east of the origin that a point in a Cartesian coordinate system lies, measured in that system's units.
[coordinate systems] The positive x-value in a rectangular coordinate system.

Easting - The distance east of the origin that a point in a Cartesian coordinate system lies, measured in that system's units.

Eastings The x-coordinates in a plane coordinate system; see northings.
Edge Match An editing procedure to ensure that all features crossing adjacent map sheets have the same edge locations attribute descriptions, and feature classes.

Easting: The east-west, X, coordinate in a rectangular coordinate system.

Easting Provides the easting of the query point.
Northing Provides the northing of the query point.
Elevation Provides the elevation of the query point.

Eastings:
The complete Easting value is placed as close to each corner as possible without interfering with any other border information. Its true position is dependent on the actual grid placement within the map.

eastings (x) are displacements eastward
northings (y) express displacement northward
the central meridian is given an easting of 500,000 m
the northing for the equator varies depending on hemisphere ...

Easting
When the Cartesian coordinate system is used in conjunction with a grid system on a map, measurements along what would be the horizontal or X-axis are called eastings.

False easting 1000000.0 (one million meters)
Except for Geographics, all map projections (including both UTM and BC Albers) introduce distortion when representing features from the curved surface of the earth onto a flat map.

false easting
The linear value added to all x-coordinates of a map projection so that none of the values in the geographic region being mapped are negative.

False Easting, x coordinate of map(-projection) origin
y0
False Northing, y coordinate of map origin
k0, scale
Scale factor at central meridian [0.1, 10]
lam0
Central meridian, longitude of map origin (-180, 180)
phi0 ...

where the Easting and Northing components of the flow vector q = (qx, qy), and the border line vector L = (Lx, Ly) are cross multiplied.

UTM Zones
Eastings are measured from the central meridian (with a 500km false easting to insure positive coordinates). Northings are measured from the equator (with a 10,000km false northing for positions south of the equator).
UTM Zone 14 ...

Easting First measurement of a grid reference used to specific the location of a point on a rectangular coordinate system. The distance measured eastward from the origin of a rectangular coordinate system.

However, false eastings and false northings are frequently used, which effectively offset the origin to a different place on the coordinate plane. This is done in order to achieve several purposes: ...

designated 0 for quadrangles in the northern hemisphere, and 10,000,000 for quadrangles in the southern hemisphere. Since the distance from poles to Equator is approximately 10,000 km, such offset origins ensure coordinates (called false eastings ...

In our Data Frame Proeprties modify the coordinate system properties, Changing the False Easting to 0, and the False Northing to -143000. This basically shifts our coordinates closer to the origin.

The only caution is that since I was working with points very close to the equator there are terms in the Northings and Eastings equations which were negligible and have therefore not been included in the calculations.

Within any given SPC zone, X-Y coordinates are given in eastings and northings. A central meridian passes each zone and is given a false easting of 2 million feet. A false northing of 0 feet is established below the southern limit of each zone.

The UTM easting coordinate (the X coordinate) for a feature is the distance in meters east or west from the central meridian of the UTM zone.

UTM coordinates are typically given with the zone first, then the easting, then the northing. So, in UTM coordinates, Red Hill is located in zone twelve at 328204 E (easting), 4746040 N (northing).

Positions are measured using Eastings and Northings, measured in meters, instead of Latitude and Longitude. Eastings start at 500,000 on the centre line of each zone.

The colour-coded map shows the maximal absolute error of a rigid-body shift in the image when the components of shift, both Northing and Easting, were determined from a single point located at the center of the map sheet.

By providing an SPC easting (x) and northing (y), the state name, and the zone number, any location in the United States can be identified by a unique coordinate value. SPC Zone boundaries follow state and county boundaries.

A grid is a rectangular system with the easting and the northing lines forming right angles at the point of intersection.

The first parameter is the false easting - a linear value applied to the origin of the x-coordinates - or the central meridian. The second parameter is the false northing - a linear value applied to the origin of the y-coordinates - or the equator.

Also, a false Easting value was chosen to provide FCS Easting values within the construction area which are different from Easting values of the ITM, UTM, or Gauss-Kruger projections used in Germany and Denmark.

For example, if the destination Universal Address is NAC: GH8JS QFGSL and the current location is NAC: 8H8JK QFGSD, you can see the differences between these two Universal Addresses: seven grid cells of Level 5 NAC grid in easting and six grid cells ...

There is a false origin defined at 400,000, -100,000 such that the central meridian is the Zero easting of the National Grid - which is also aligned to the 2 degree West meridian of Longitude. Additionally, the scale along the central meridian is 0.

orthogonal system A coordinate system in which the X (Easting), and the Y (Northing) axes are scaled the same and consistently in all parts of the map, and the curvature of the earth is ignored.

New option for alignment tie by co-ordinates (northing and easting) has been provided in the alignment dialog in ABC Wizard.

Select the X,Y coordinates as you have them- in my case these were the false eastings and northings. Do not specify a coordinate system.

The right side of figure 2 shows a Project Block containing a million grid elements (termed "voxels") positioned by their geographic coordinates-X (easting), Y (northing) and Z (height).

Transformation of geographic coordinates (longitude and latitude) to plane coordinates (eastings and northings or x,y)
Reduction of the scale (it does not matter in what order the second and third steps are performed) ...

Step 2. Enter the UTM coordinate in the northing and easting edit box. UTM coordinates are in meters.

Origin - The reference point in a coordinate system at which both the easting and northing (i.e. x and y) values are equal to zero.
...

Northings - these are the vertical parallel lines of the grid - ie they are series of lines which run from the south to the north (similar to lines of latitude - but not the same)
Eastings - these are the horizontal parallel lines of the grid - ie ...

The easting coordinates are measured from an artificial reference line drawn parallel and 500,000 meters to the west of the zone's central meridian.
