Feature classes are homogeneous collections of common features, each having the same spatial representation, such as points, lines, or polygons, and a common set of attribute columns, for example, ...

Feature Data Sources
Shapefiles are ArcView's native file format for geographic features and attribute data.

[data models] A map feature that bounds an area at a given scale, such as a country on a world map or a district on a city map.

Features change from areas to lines or to points, e.g. a village or town represented by a polygon at 1:15,000 may change to point symbology at a 1:100,000 scale.; ...

Full-featured GIS software also supports image-rendering enhancements (e.g., atmospheric effects such as sky, fog and haze). Recent additions support the generation of map animations using standard MPEG encoding formats.

Names for features of symmetrical patterns
We begin by introducing names for certain features that may occur in symmetrical patterns.

Many sink features in the DEM are representations of natural surface features. Exclusion of these features by blindly filling all sinks will result in a DEM that will not correctly represent actual topography.

Also offered is AssistNow Autonomous, a free feature similar to assisted-GPS without the need for a host or external network connection.

feature class
1. A classification describing the format of geographic features and supporting data in a coverage.

Feature Updates
The 2003 TIGER/Line files contain very few updates to street features or address ranges from the Census 2000 versions of the TIGER/Line files.

feature attribute table : A table used by ARC/INFO to store attribute information for a specific coverage feature class. Feature attribute tables supported include: Cover.PAT for polygons or points Cover.AAT for arcsCover.NAT for nodes Cover.

Feature: the make, shape, form or appearance of a person or thing
A good GIS database design methodology requires the use of terms in a clear an unambiguous manner.

Features: Regions, lines, or points, usually but not always contiguous in nature.
Geocoding: Assignment of latitude/longitude coordinates to points, lines, or features.

Feature - A spatial element which represent a real-world entity by having specific characteristics. Often used synonymously with the term object. A generalized description of a point, line or polygon.

Features
Each theme within ArcGIS GIS contains a set of spatially defined characters, shapes, or areas called features, each is defined by the attributes or charactersitics it represents.

Feature Class
A collection of geographic features with the same geometry type (such as point, line or polygon), the same attributes, and the same spatial reference.

Feature - "An object in a spatial data base with a distinct set of characteristics" (Bonham-Carter, 1994, p. 359).

feature separation Process of preparing a separate drawing, engraving, or negative for selected types of data in the preparation of a map or chart.

Feature Types
There are three types of Feature which can be mapped: Points, Lines and Areas. A Point Feature is a single GPS coordinate position which is identified with a specific Object.

Feature A representation of a geographic entity, as a point, line, or polygon.

Feature: Natural and man-made geographic features represented by points/symbols, lines, and areas on a map. Object in a geographic or spatial database with a distinct set of characteristics.

Features of a permanent nature. Show the features around the station with enough detail so that they will not be confused with other similar features. For example, many road intersections and hilltops look alike.

FeatureCursor Class
The FeatureCursor class is very similar to the Cursor class with the exception that FeatureCursors are used when you're working with geographic datasets rather than traditional database tables.

Feature Identification Map
In the treatise that follows, to focus attention, we identify specific features and patterns by letters on an overlay of the background image in which we flattened the gray tones. Take a look at the map now.

Feature Alignment-- The source datasets consists of features from two or more different feature classes that bear some defined relationship to each other.

Features are drawn on these 'topo' maps as if seen from above, know as a plan view, along with lines of equal elevation, known as contour lines, to show the changes in elevation.
