Hydrography: The representation of the location and direction of flow of water bodies. In geographic information systems, it usually refers to coverages depicting various water features.

hydrography
The description and study of bodies of water or their representations on a map.

Other layers, like hydrography appear as you zoom out.
At the Regional Scale you have more general detail.
On out to National-Level of detail.

In reference to data, the geographic and tabular data files obtained from the USGS that may include base catagories such as transportation, hydrography, conours, and public land survey boundaries.

reference data European term for a collaborative effort to create a widely available source of basic geographic data, providing national or European coverage of a set of common digital geographic data such as Elevation, Transportation, Hydrography, ...

5- and 15-minute topographic quadrangles include nine thematic categories: (1) boundaries; (2) transportation; (3) hydrography; (4) U.S.

For example, using GIS technology, it is possible to combine agricultural records with hydrography data to determine which streams will carry certain levels of fertilizer runoff.

The meaning behind these values is specified by the user- they can represent elevations, temperatures, hydrography, etc. Satellite imagery uses raster data to record different wavelengths of light.

Hydrography - Flowing water, standing water, and wetlands
Hypsography - Contours and supplementary spot elevations
Non-vegetative features - Glacial moraine, lava, sand, and gravel ...

Hydrographic and bathymetric surveying is the surveying or mapping of harbors, inlets and deep water locations. Hydrography is the study of the physical characteristics of oceans, lakes and rivers as well as the elements affecting safe navigation.

Digital Line Graph files from the U.S. Geological Survey. These files include digital information from the USGS map base categories, such as transportation, hydrography, contours and public land survey boundaries.

See: oceanographic survey hydrography Science that deals with the measurement and description of the physical features of the oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and their adjoining coastal areas, with particular reference to their use for navigation.
