GIS Igneous rockImage analysis

Image Registration with Scattered Data Methods
At a sufficiently large scale, as in the case of typical airborne scanned imagery, the Earth's curvature may be ignored greatly simplifying the distortion modeling.

Image-based navigation, including imagery and laser scanning/ranging sensors, will assure seamless transition from outdoor GPS to indoor navigation.

As an image has no spatial reference data, it will be necessary to georeference it after adding it to the scene.

Images were obtained from rocket-borne cameras as early as the 1890s, but the impetus for remote sensing from space really came following World War II and the development of rocket technology.

Ensuring the long term accessibility and usability of records stored as digital images is largely dependent on how digital imaging systems are designed, implemented, managed, and migrated.

As many of you may remember, the distribution of IKONOS imagery was subsequently supressed during the Afghanistan war when the United States government bought up all of the IKONOS overflight capacity for the duration.

Image File Management
Because .rgb image files can end up taking a lot of disk space, users should be mindful of disk storage capacity when attempting to create an animation.

Image vs. Attribute All GISs have to store digital maps somehow. The organization of the map into digits has a major impact on how we capture, store, and use the map data in a GIS. GISs store data in an organized way as a database.

Digital images include both digital photographs, and images that have been created or modified on a computer.

Digital Image Processing
To be effective in management decisions, a geographic information system requires timely, accurate update of many of its spatial data elements.

3 Image files
It is NOT necessary to archive images of every single coverage in your GIS, nor is is necessary to archive images showing all of the ways you used the GIS to play with that data.

digital image -- a two-dimensional array of regularly spaced picture elements (pixels) constituting a picture.
digital volume -- a three-dimensional array of regularly spaced volume elements (voxels) constituting a volume.

IMAGE PROCESSING AND INTERPRETATION:
MORRO BAY, CALIFORNIA
Assuming that you have read the preceding Introduction to remote sensing, you should be ready to work with the basics that image interpreters apply to examining and analyzing an image .

Image Data
Image data is most often used to represent graphic or pictorial data. The term image inherently reflects a graphic representation, and in the GIS world, differs significantly from raster data.

The images of the Earth as it might be seen from space, gives a good indication of the complexity of the problem facing map makers when it comes to converting the surface of a sphere on to a flat 'piece of paper'.
