The Map Series Numbering System is mostly used by the Military. The map series number, together with the NTS number and edition number, provide a unique map identification.

thematic map series are compiled by various agencies:
soil maps (e.g. Soil Conservation Service)
land use (e.g. USGS land use series)
vegetation (forestry agencies, many state governments)
surficial geology (US and state geological surveys) ...

topographic map series, USGS

Mapped Data/Map Series
Mapped data may refer to published maps found in an existing map series or collection. These maps should be logically classified based upon their data content (e.g., topographical, hydrological data).

The IMW topographic map series was developed in the early 1900s and the WAC series was developed in the mid-1900s.

National Topographic Series (NTS) Canada's map series at a variety of map scales Neatline A border line commonly drawn around the extent of a map to enclose the map, legend, scale, title, and other information, ...

A map template containing neatlines, North arrow, logos, and other cartographic map elements for a common map series.
3. An empty tabular data file containing only item definitions. Terabyte, TB A measure of data size.

In a digital environment, this term refers to the complex (and often unwritten) rules for selection, generalization and representation used for a particular map series. [Not to be confused with a scale of measurement.] cartographic spaghetti p.

The set contains vector digitising of the ONC 1:1M map series. It is not very useful for terrain modelling on other than a regional scale, and then only in areas of reasonable relief as the contours - digitised in feet - are never closer then 250ft, ...

Operational staff are people such as [1] cartographers, who monitor the design of map displays, the standards for map symbols and standard map series [2] data capturers, who converts map into digital form and [3] potential users who use the GIS.

map series Family of maps conforming generally to the same specifications and designed to cover an area or a country in systematic pattern.

The Ordnance Survey (or OS) produces topographic map series covering the United Kingdom at 1:25,000 and 1:50,000 scales.

The characteristics of atlases and map series can be encoded in computer programs and compared with the database at final production time. Digital products for use in other GISs can also be derived by simply copying data from the database.

A well-known map series is the USGS 7.5-minute topographic quadrangle. Each map in this map series covers 7.

The USGS DRGs are digital representations of the 1:24,000, 1:100,000, and 1:250,000 map series. For users wanting to include the USGS data into their GIS there are two problems that must be overcome.

Animate raster map series

Starts the XGANIM interactive interface to display a series of raster maps as an animation. See xganim.

Name of the map and the map series
Claimed accuracy for any specific map components
All details of the map projection and co-ordinate system employed
7.4.7.2 Textual and numeric data (section 3.6.2) ...

This system is the basis for most national and global map series, and for areas that are conveniently north-south in elongation. In the US, all states have adopted special cases of map projections that suit the location shape of their territory.

The SLC v3.0 map series maintains the linkage to the national Ecological Stratification System for Canada. SLC maps are available in several versions (1.0 to 2.2 and now 3.0) from the AAFC CanSIS web site.

A mosaic of cartographically edited topographic files, clipped to the bounds of windows as defined for a specific map series. The Cartographic Database is not suited to GIS analysis. (Also referred to as Carto Database, and Carto Base.) ...

Created from digital line graph (DLG) contours or equivalent, from any USGS map series up to 1:100000 scale ...

A map containing neatlines, north arrow, logos, and similar map elements for a common map series, but lacking the central information that makes one map unique from another.
3. An empty tabular data file containing only item definitions.

are produced by converting 1:24,000-scale and 1:100,000-scale hypsography digital line graph (DLG) data to DEM format or the DEM's are generated from vector data derived from scanned raster files of USGS 1:24.000-scale or 1:100,000-scale map series ...

Templates save time and increase the precision of topological overlays.
2. A map template containing neatlines, North arrow, logos, and other cartographic map elements for a common map series.

Agency (NGA)), with the cooperation of Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom, to support the display and analysis of geographic data. It is generally based on the DMA's 1:1,000,000 scale Operational Navigation Chart (ONC), base map series.

stored the digital representation of the geographic features and several other cartographic databases deduced by computer assisted generalization from the fundamental GIS database stored the digital representations of the accepted map series.
