Posted on May 04, 2004
Are you working with US FWS NWI data? If so then this document explaining the various classification & map codes is a must have.

NWI
National Wetlands Inventory (USFWS); National Wilderness Inventory (Australia)
NWS ...

Fish and Wildlife Service's National Wetlands Inventory (NWI) produces and provides information on the characteristics, extent, and status of U.S. wetlands and deepwater habitats and other wildlife habitats.

More than 30,000 detailed wetland maps have been produced by the National Wetland Inventory Program (NWI). NWI maps cover nearly 70% of conterminous U.S., 21 % of Alaska, and all of Hawaii. Most of the maps cover the same area as covered by the 7.

Here is an example of an identity performed on National Wetland Inventory (NWI) as the input layer with stands as the identity layer.
