paleosol -- Soil horizon from the geologic past. peat -- n. A deposit of partly decayed plant remains in a very wet environment; marsh or swamp deposit of plant remains containing more than 50 percent carbon.
paleosol A buried soil horizon of the geologic past. Paleozoic An era of geologic time lasting from 570 to 245 million years ago.
Paleosol A soil exhibiting features that are the result of some past conditions and processes. Paleozoic Geologic era that occurred from 570 to 245 million years ago.
However, preserved/lithified soils (paleosols) are an almost ubiqutious feature in terrestrial (land-based) environments throughout most of geologic time.
