GIS Planar Coordinate SystemPlanimetric map

Planimeter A mechanical or electronic device that calculates the area of a map feature.
planimetric The horizontal (x,y) locations of non-topographic features, such as rivers, lakes, buildings, roads, etc.

Using a planimeter, determine the length of time it would take you to measure areas of different shapes and sizes.

This is similar to using a measuring wheel or a dot grid or planimeter on a map, but this method is faster, easier, and potentially more accurate.

A mechanical device that computes area integrals is the planimeter, which measures the area of plane figures by tracing them out: this replicates integration in polar coordinates by adding a joint so that the 2-element linkage effects Green's theorem, ...

Even the early scientific applications used it as an electronic planimeter to aggregate data over large areas for input into traditional, non-spatial models.

Volume data formats include elevation versus contour area, elevation versus planimeter area, and elevation versus volume data.
