The pointer will change to an L-square , and when you click on a location, you will see a line between the place you clicked and the pointer. You will also notice that the window above reports the length of the line.

CURSOR
A pointer or other symbol on a screen that indicates the active position. Movement of the cursor is generally accomplished through the use of a mouse or other pointing device.

2. An internal pointer to a record in a table which provides a mechanism for processing a selected set of records. The cursor is moved one by one through the set while operations such as display, query and update are performed.

A heade r file contains information about its thematic domain, pointer to a base map, and pointers to the first and last event lists. The base map shows an initial snapshot of a single theme of interest in a geographic area.

When the database was first opened, the program was handed back a link to the first record in the database, which also contained pointers to other pieces of data.
