POSTCODE
A coding system for referencing all properties in a country which have a postal address. The term is used generally, except in the US where the more specific term zipcode is used.

How to Assign Postcode Areas to Administrative Districts
You are faced with the task of restructuring your sales territories from administration level to postcode level? Postcode districts and adminstrative districts often overlap.

They are usually georeferenced through the postcode system (e.g. in the UK to the unit postcode, which typically comprises 15 or so addresses in urban areas).

The name of the place of destination and the name of the country of destination shall be written in capital letters together with the correct postcode number or delivery zone number, if any.

The solved cases (geocode in the cadaster, address matching using dime and tiger files, postcodes, etc.) are not general but linked to a particular field or data set.

The first of these questions seeks to find what exists at a particular location. A location can be described in many ways, using, for example, place name, postcode, or geographic reference such as longitude/ latitude or x and y.

For example, census data may be aggregated into census enumeration districts, or postcode areas, or police precincts, or any other spatial partition (thus, the 'areal units' are 'modifiable').
