projection file 1. A coverage file that stores the parameters for the map projection and coordinate system of a geographic data set (e.g., a coverage). 2.
Projection Files The projection file (*.prj) is required to upload the data to FPA-PM. You can create the projection file using any of the following tools: ArcCatalog ArcToolbox ArcView 3.x projection utility extension ...
This creates a projection file (.prj) stored with the shapefile. None of the data is altered; it is simply defining the projection.
proj will create new GRASS projection files (PROJ_INFO, PROJ_UNITS, WIND and DEFAULT_WIND) based on the imported information. If the location parameter is specified in addition to -c, then a new location will be created.
The main file (*.shp) stores the geometry and must always have an index file (*.shx). A dBASE file (*.dbf) stores all the attributes of the shapes in the main file. Additionally, a projection file (*.prj) stores the projection information.
