rectification
See Also: geometric correction, orthorectification, transformation
[data conversion] The process of applying a mathematical transformation to an image so that the result is a planimetric image.

Image rectification is often more complicated. Recognizable features on a map are not always found on an image or may be difficult to recognize and vice-versa. Additionally, existing map accuracy standards may inhibit selection of representative GCPs.

rectification - The process of eliminating photo scale variations and relief displacement. In digital image processing, it also refers to correcting for geometric distortions, radiometric calibrations, and noise removal.

Rectification - Making an image conform to a map projection system (TWS).

Rectification: A set of techniques for removing data errors through calculation or adjustment.

Rectification is the mapping (transformation) of an image from one coordinate system to another. The geometry of an image extracted into a GRASS LOCATION having an x,y coordinate system is not planimetric.

rectification
The process of applying a mathematical transformation to an image so that the result is a planimetric image.

Rectification - The processes and techniques of eliminating the effects of relief and tilts in an aerial photographs.

Registration - The process of fitting thematic data layers to the base map. See also Georeferencing.

Perform orthorectification of about 30 Landsat 5 images based on Level 1G Landsat 5 images and control points provided by CTIS. No qualification is necessary for this type of work. The contracts should be issued towards the end of summer 2004.

orthorectification Use of photogrammetric techniques to adjust and correct distortions in mages. OWS OGC Web Services.

rectification The process by which an image or grid is converted from image coordinates to real-world coordinates. Rectification typically involves rotation and scaling of grid cells, and thus requires resampling of values.

rectification, differential The process of scanning and reprojecting a photograph onto a horizontal plane in differential elements to remove displacements caused by tilt and relief.

This high-quality data may be purchased from at graduated prices based on degree of orthorectification and other image qualtiy characteristics. The resolution of the panchromatic data enables users to distinguish ground features as small as one meter.

To update or merge NAD27 and NAD83 geocoded image and map data would require the rectification of old images to new NTS map sheet standards which are in NAD83.

processing power of the computer to transform digital information, gathered from sources with different projections and/or different coordinate systems, to a common projection and coordinate system. For images, this process is called rectification.

Digital Orthophotography - A photo-quality digital image of surface features in their geometrically corrected, true map projection. The orthorectification process ties each pixel in a digital image to its true earth location.

Some deviation of brightness values may also occur during the scanning and rectification processes. Radiometric accuracy and quality are verified through visually inspecting and comparing the digital orthophoto to the original unrectified image.

Rectification to some planimetric standard (for example a suitable map projection) has to be incorporated. And fitting or stretching one image to properly overlay another is often vital, requiring ground control points or tie points.

images from the TM sensor on Landsats 4 and 5 satellites have significantly better geometric quality than images from sensors on earlier Landsat missions due to engineering enhancements to the spacecraft. This has facilitated geodetic rectifications ...

Rectification typically involves rotation and scaling of grid cells, and thus requires resmapling of values. Relate An operation establishing a connection between corresponding records in two tables using an item common to both.
