Skew

Skew - Distortion from the true symmetrical form. (1) In remote sensing, skew denotes distortion of a digital image caused by the Earth's rotation relative to the movement of the satellite.

Skew-symmetric matrices are such that elements symmetric about the main diagonal are the negative of each other, that is, . In a skew-symmetric matrix, all diagonal elements are zero, that is, .

For the average satellite however, the propagation delay would be this 1/2-bit period plus the mean skew between the furthest satellite and the bitstreams of other space vehicles.

When a reflective environment (horizontal, vertical, or skew) cannot be avoided, refrain from using both low satellites and satellites within half an hour either side of culmination for that site.

Pictorials show an image of an object as viewed from a skew direction in order to reveal all three directions (axes) of space in one picture.

ABC Wizard allows input of either skew or bearing angle of piers.

1. Under the Image menu, a new function, Check Angle, is implemented to measure image skew angle for de-skewing and image rotation.
The following steps explain how to check angles: ...

In order for these images to "fit" with other geographic data, they must be accompanied by a world file, which is an ASCII file that determines pixel size, location, and skew angles.

Based on the locations of control monuments, a "best fit" is made to the source map's origin, rotation, scale, skew, and stretch. If the source map's systematic errors were small, an accurate "fit" will be made resulting in small residual errors.
