Soil Map Vectorization
If your soil map is scanned as a 1-bit black and white image, you can Auto Vectorize to get all parcel boundaries vectorized automatically. If your soil map is drawn on an aerial photo, scan the image as grayscale.
Soil Mapping Units
For the purposes of mapping, the soils were grouped on the basis of their characteristics into named soil series and soil phase units.

The following is a list of the specifications that must be followed when making a soil map:
1. Up to 25% of polygons may be of other soil types than that named, if this does not represent a major hindrance to land management.

This method is typically used for vectorizing scanned parcel, contour, or soil maps.
Outline vectorization generates vector features at the border of the connected cells (linear elements and solids).
The National Soil Geographic database (NATSGO) was derived from general soil maps for each state. NATSGO data were digitized from a map covering all of the U.S. at a scale of 1:7,500.
r.to.vect extracts vectors (aka, "arcs") from a raster file. These arcs may represent linear features (like roads or streams), or may represent area edge features (like political boundaries, or soil mapping units).
