GIS Spatio-temporal DatabaseSpectral Resolution

Thematic Mapper Remote sensing device found on Landsat satellites that scans images in seven spectral bands from visible to thermal infrared.

The TM measures the intensity of reflected radiation in six spectral bands--three in the visible wavelengths, blue (0.45-0.52 µm), green (0.52-0.60 µm), red (0.63-0.69 µm); one in the near infrared (0.76-0.90 µm); ...

69 (image differencing of spectral bands). In the case study presented in this paper, image differencing was similarly the most effective of the techniques evaluated.

The EOS ground stations archive imagery corresponding to the spectral bands of the ASTER sensors, including the Level 1A data sets. The DEMs are extracted from this data.

The TM sensor (Landsats 4 and 5) and the ETM+ sensor (Landsat 7) operate in seven spectral bands, shown in the table below:

AVHRR instruments measure the reflectance of the Earth in 5 relatively wide (by today's standards) spectral bands.

BIP and BIL are formats produced by remote sensing systems. The primary difference among them is the technique used to store brightness values captured simultaneously in each of several colors or spectral bands.
