[data storage] Descriptive information, usually alphanumeric, that is stored in rows and columns in a database and can be linked to spatial data.

Tabular Data
Tabular data consists of attribute tables that define the parameters of the map features. There is really no limit to what the tables can contain, whether Boolean strings (True/False), Text, or Numeric data.

Tabular Data
Data stored in a format of records and columns (e.g., as a table). Tabular data are commonly numeric or text data. DBMS technology is used to manage tabular data.

Tabular data in a GIS share the same importance as coordinate data. The strength of a GIS lies in its ability to manage data about spatial features, in addition to the position and location of the features themselves.

tabular data Data maintained in a tabular form, that is, organized into rows and columns in which each column represents a kind of information and each row represents an instance of information.

Tabular data
Digital data already in tabular form integrate into the GIS database in two very important ways. First, they form the basis for GIS feature attributes. In this case they must be linked somehow to the objects forming the spatial geometry.

Attribute (tabular data) is descriptive data that GIS links to map features.

Charts display tabular data graphically. In ArcView, charts are fully integrated with tables and views so you can choose the table records (theme features) you want displayed on the chart by simply clicking on them.

Good notes on Loading Tabular Data can be found in ArcGIS on-line help. Note that tables won't be visible in the map's table of contents until you choose the Source tab at the bottom of the table of contents.

An empty tabular data file containing only item definitions. Terabyte, TB A measure of data size. A terabyte of data is equivalent to 1,000 gigabytes of data or 1,000,000 megabytes of data. One petabyte equals 1,000 terabytes.

As stated earlier, some organizations will be able to enter much tabular data into the database simply by way of importing existing tables or files into the GIS, or relating tables which exist in their external DBMS.

Geographic data and related tabular data can be collected in-house, found on the Internet for free, or purchased from a commercial data provider.

Shapefile - A set of files that contain a set of points, arcs, or polygons (or features) that hold tabular data and a spatial location. This file format is used in ArcView software.
