Thermal infrared imagery proved scarce during the writer's Internet search. No photo was identified as of this type. But here is one which resembles a thermal IR image. It was taken during the Contra conflict in Nicauragua.

Thematic Mapper Remote sensing device found on Landsat satellites that scans images in seven spectral bands from visible to thermal infrared.
Fundamentals of image analysis: analysis of visible and thermal infrared data. Pages 987-1124 in R. N. Colwell, ed. Manual of remote sensing. Seconded., Vol. 1. Am. Soc. Photogram., Falls Church, Va. EVERITT, J. H., AND D. E. ESCOBAR. 1989.
The spectral resolution encompasses seven bands that range from visible blue to thermal infrared. Included is a Mid Infrared (MIR) band. Please note band seven is out of the spectral sequence because it was added after band 6 had been developed.
The images in band 1 (red waveband), band 2 (near-infrared waveband), and bands 4 and 5 (thermal infrared wavebands) were resampled to create 1.1-km pixels, and portions of the images containing the watershed were extracted an coregistered.
in the visible range, in the near-infrared, in the mid-infrared, and in the thermal infrared. The visible and near-infrared regions provide information on water turbidity, bathymetry, currents, and sediment plumes.
ITRES optical imaging systems operate throughout the electromagnetic spectrum, which includes the visible-near infrared (VNIR), shortwave infrared (SWIR), midwave infrared (MWIR) and longwave thermal infrared (LWIR).
For example, the spectral signature of visible (to the human eye) light is typically recorded by black-and-white photographic film, while light in the near infrared and thermal infrared portions of the spectrum are recorded on color-infrared film ...

The instrument records in three bands: the Visible and Near Infrared (VNIR ), the Shortwave Infrared (SWIR ), and the Thermal Infrared (TIR ), oriented on the nadir and backward looking.
