TIFF: Tag Image File Format. A series of standard color image file formats adopted by Microsoft, Aldus, and others to transfer images between different software packages.

TIFF - Popular format of raster file when used for aerial photos It is delivered uncompressed and georeferenced with a world file. Because it is uncompressed it is as perfect a copy of the original photo as is possible.(ITT Space systems) .

TIFF with a World File (.tif, .tfw)
The Tagged Image File Format (TIFF), developed by Aldus Corporation, is an industry standard for data storage and data transfer across operating system environments and applications.

TIFF
Tagged Interchange File Format. An industry-standard raster data format. TIFF supports black-and-white, gray-scale, pseudocolor, and true-color images, all of which can be stored in a compressed or uncompressed format.

The TIFF file created by my scanner software is incompatible with R2V, what should I do?
What scanners are best for R2V? Do I need to buy one?
What file extension should be used for the world file?

The TIFF image format using packbits compression is the same format that the USGS uses for the DRGs. The amount of compression varies by quad, depending on the variation in color on the quad.

ArcInfo supports the following TIFF compression schemes: CCITT Group 4 for black-and-white data (read only); CCITT Group 3, one-dimensional encoding for black-and-white data; and PackBits. CD-ROM Compact Disk-Read Only Memory.

Moreover, many raster data formats such as bitmaps (BMP) and most Tagged Image File Formats (TIFF) don't facilitate co-ordinate information. In recent years an extension of the Tiff format, called Geo-Tiff, has been developed.

5 topo maps in TIFF format and imported this to Erdas/Imagine and georeferenced this to the hardcopy version on a digitizing tablet (fig. 1.a).

[edit] Comparison with TIFF
Tagged Image File Format (TIFF) is a complicated format that incorporates an extremely wide range of options.

Export the Multipatches and the TIN, and make sure to export the Orthophoto Raster as a TIFF.
This should give you a nice sketchup model of the existing condition with the aerial photo underneath.

ArcGIS has problems reliabley saving projection information for TIFF image files. Instead, we will export the TIFF format file to an Imagine .img format file.
In ArcCatalog, right-click on foresti020l.

The program prompts the user for the name of a GRASS raster file, an output TIFF file, whether an 8 or 24 bit format is desired, and whether or not to create a TIFF world file. Currently only uncompressed, packpit, or deflate TIFF files are written.

When you do this 3DEM will automatically do the following things: (1) Convert the USGS TIFF file to a BMP file; (2) thin the raster down to a much smaller file size; (3) rotate the file so that the map border aligns straight up and down.

TIFF 4, JPEG). Most scanning systems provide software to convert raster data to a vector format differentiating point, line, and area features.

The Libre Map Project offers free, high-quality USGS DRG maps in TIFF format along with world files for use with your GIS software ...

These include ArcInfo coverages; shapefiles; CAD, VPF, TIFF, JPEG, BMP, SunRaster, USGS DEM, DTM, Department of Defense DTED, generic ASCII, and MrSID files; and ArcGIS themes created from tabular data.

TIFF Tagged Interchange File Format: a common file format used for scanned (raster) image data. It is usually abbreviated to 'TIF' as a file extension due to the three letter limit in file extensions on personal computers.
