Alternate Shot - Another twist of stoke play. In this format one player hits the drive and then the other player hits the next shot and so forth until the hole is completed. The score recorded is the same manner as stroke play.

 


Alternate Shot: Form of play best suited to a foursome of two two-person teams in which the two players on a team alternate shots on the same hole.
Approach Putt: A putt made from outside the green.

3. Alternate Shot
Alternate Shot is a format for 2-person teams and is sometimes called Foursomes. The two players on a team alternate hitting shots, playing the same ball. Odds and Evens and Scotch Foursomes are other versions of Alternate Shot.

2-person Alternate Shot
Two players play as partners during any stipulated round. The partners shall play alternately from the teeing ground and during the play of each hole. Penalty strokes do not affect order of play.

In matchplay, a contest between two sides each consisting of a pair of players, where the 2 partners hit alternate shots on ONE ball.

Where golfers play in teams and take alternate shots. They also take it in turn to drive.

Where players play in teams of two taking alternate shots. Each hole is started alternatively as well.
Scramble
Team competition where players play from the position of the best ball of a team member after every stroke or drive.

Greensome: Game in which both players on a team drive off. The better of the two is chosen; then they alternate shots from there.
Grip: Piece of rubber/leather on the end of a club. Or your hold on the club.

Thereafter the players play alternate shots. So if A's tee-shot is selected, the playing order from the tee will be A-B-A-B etc until the ball is holed out. If player B's tee-shot is selected, the playing order will be B-A-B-A etc.

except that in foursomes (see our seperate article about the Types of competition, one player from each team tees off and the players then take alternate shots until the ball is holed out.

They then select the best of the second shots, and from that point until the ball is holed they play only one ball in an alternate shot format. This is a more tolerant variable for the greensome, used for local prizes..
