Attend the flag - To hold and then remove the flag while another player putts. A common courtesy performed when playing a round of golf.

Attend The Flag : Holding the pin/flagstick while a player makes his stroke ensuring that once contact is made with the ball the pin is removed from the hole to avoid any penalty strokes being assessed.

Attend: To hold and remove the flagstick as a partner putts, usually from some distance.
Away: The term used to describe the ball farthest from the hole and, thus, next to be played.

Attend the Flag-- Holding a flag (pin) while a fellow player putts and removing the flag after the ball has been struck and as it approaches the cup.

Attend: When putting, a partner may "attend" by removing the flagstick while you putt. This is usually done when you are at a distance so the ball does not hit the flagstick and bounce out of the hole.

When attending the flagstick, wherever possible, hold the flag itself and stand at arms length from the hole.
