Bail Out Area: A particular zone adjacent to the green where errant shots are not as severely punished as other zones around the green. In the bail out area, recovery shots are made more easily.

Bail Out
To avoid or get out of trouble. There are two different senses here: Making a long putt is one way of bailing out; another is to hit a safe shot rather than risk playing the ball into a hazard.

BAIL OUT - a shot played to the "safe" part of the course. For example if the flag is right next to the water and the golfer intentionally shoots away from the flag to avoid the water - thus "bailing out" ...

Example: I figured my bailout was into the left rough when I saw nothing but trouble down the right side.

Bail Out - To avoid trouble purposely, such as a water hazard, by hitting the ball to a safe area.
Balata - The sap-like substance from the South American Balata tree used to make golf ball covers.

balata: Sap from a tropical tree, used in the production of covers for balls, favoured by professionals.

bail out: You hit the shot, for example, well to the right to avoid trouble on the left.

ball at rest: The ball isn't moving.

If there isn't, play the safer shot and bail out over a lowered area of the bunker face.

Still, there's no reason to bail out with a chip shot to the side, if you know the proper technique. Begin by playing the ball well back in your open stance.

Bailout : To play or aim away from trouble. Example: Seeing the water hazard on the right side of the hole, Julie decided to bail out into the left rough.
