Ball at Rest: The ball has come to a complete stop on the fairway or green
Ball Embedded: A technical term for a plugged ball ...

ball at rest-- A ball that has come to a complete stop and is not longer moving.
ball embedded-- A golf ball that lands and sticks in the ground making it very difficult or impossible to hit. Also may be called a plugged ball.

Ball at Rest: When the ball is not moving.
Ball Marker: Is a small, round object used to indicate the ball's position on the green.

If your ball is at rest and it is moved by you, your partner or your caddie, except as permitted by the Rules, or if it moves after you have addressed it, add a penalty stroke and replace your ball.

Q. Steve`s ball was at rest on the putting green. Cindy plays from just off the green and her ball hits Steve`s ball. What must Steve do?

- Hitting a ball at rest on the green: In stroke play, if your putt strikes another ball on the green, you get a 2-stroke penalty. In match play, there is no penalty.
