BURIED LIE - a totally or nearly totally plugged ball; a golf shot where the ball ends up buried in sand or soft mud or grass.

In wet sand, you usually have a clean, unburied lie, and this tempts many players to try to play out with a chip shot. As far as I'm concerned, that's absolutely the worst idea in the world.
