smother: To hit down on ball with an extremely closed club face, resulting in a low shot curving excessively left.
snap hook: As duck hook; a shot that starts right of target and excessively curves left and left of target.

The hook is caused by a severe, inside to out swing path, combined with a closed club face at impact. This is what imparts the counter clockwise side spin on the ball and causes the ball to curve right to left..

2) Use a square stance where your feet are pointed toward the flagstick and a slightly closed club face where it points about three feet left of the flagstick.

A ball which may start towards the target but then curves greatly to the left with a counter-clockwise spin. It is caused by hitting the ball on an exaggerated inside-out path with a closed club face at impact.
