b.) The released runner is a shot to hit when you have a lot of green to work with. Instead of hitting a shot with a lot of spin, this one runs out so the ball rolls up to the pin.

The closed face will also deloft the club so take one less club in most cases. If you are normally a straight hitter a slightly closed stance will create the swing path for you.

When a player has a closed face at the top, it usually means their grip is too strong or their backswing is too flat. From this position, the player must open their body a great deal on the downswing in order to square the club up.

What this drill will do is allow you to get the club closed at impact because halfway between having an open face on the backswing to having a closed face on the follow through, you’ll find that your club is square at the moment of impact.

The reason is if you have a tight grip, you tighten your fore arms and this will result in a open or closed face at impact. Don't believe me, grab a club with just your left hand and set it on the ground with the face pointing at some target.

Locke probably could have used a combination of inside-to-outside stroke PATH beyond impact with a slightly closed FACE ANGLE; and such a combination would be the true mirror opposite of the Mayfair-style cut stroke described above.

Closed face drivers come 1-6 degrees closed. Slicers need closed face drivers for correction. Expect a 5-7 yard correction in slice for every degree the face is closed if your current driver has a square face angle.

Closed face---the toe of the club is more toward the target line than the heel of the club so the entire clubface is aiming more left of the target line.
