As far as how much clubhead speed you should be trying for, developing the ability to hit the ball further is always a good thing because there will be times when that extra distance will be necessary.

Coefficient of Restitution The relationship of the clubhead speed at impact to the velocity of the ball after it has been struck. This measure is affected by the clubhead and ball material.

Example: One of the factors in how far the ball travels is clubhead speed.

To generate the clubhead speed necessary to hit the "long ball". This is a great drill for new golfers, and those of smaller physical stature who need help in hitting the ball longer.
