Course Rating - The difficulty of a course as measured by AGU, USGA, R&A

Course Rating - A numerical rating, that identifies the difficulty of a course. A course rated 72.4 is more difficult than one rated at 68.5.

Course Rating: A numerical rating, usually by a recognized organization, that identifies the difficulty of a course. For example, a course rated 72.4 is more difficult than one rated at 68.5.

Course Rating - A course is rated based on the score a scratch golfer should shoot on that particular course. The higher the course rating, the more challenging a course for the amateur golfer. (Note: refer to Slope Rating).

Course Rating: The overall difficulty of a golf course under normal conditions for a scratch golfer. The number is equal to the average of the better half of a scratch golfers scores.

course rating-- A relative measure of the difficulty of a golf course used to compare the difficulty of different courses.
cross-bunker-- A sand trap that runs across the fairway.

Course rating - The comparison of playing one course, as opposed to another, in terms of difficulty, used in U.S.G.A. handicapping. It is expressed in strokes or decimal fractions of strokes.

Course Rating: The difficulty of a course, measured with a formula by the USGA. Every golf course is given a rating. The higher the course rating, the more difficult the golf course is to play.

course rating A numerical rating that identifies the difficulty of a golf course. For example, a course rated 72.7 is more challenging to play than one rated at 70.6. A scratch player should expect to shoot 70 or 71 on the course rated 70.6.

In the United States (and elsewhere) each officially rated golf course is described by two numbers, the course rating and the slope rating.

The difficulty of a course determined by a governing body (AGU, USGA, R&A). A higher numerical assignment indicates a more difficult course.

COURSE RATING - the difficulty of a course. Usually the higher the course rating the harder it is.
CUP - the thing in the hole that holds the flagstick.

A Course Rating is a mark of the USGA representing a number which describes the difficulty of a golf course from a particular set of tees for a scratch (zero handicap) player.

Subtract the course rating from your adjusted gross score for the round. The course rating measures what the USGA believes a scratch golfer would be able to score during a normal round.

The course rating is based on a course's difficulty for a scratch golfer, and the slope rating is the measure of difficulty for a non-scratch golfer. The USGA says that a course with a 113 slope rating is one of average playing difficulty.

The longest set of tees on any given course is generally referred to as the “tips'. Each set of tees has a unique course rating and slope rating that is used to determine your golf handicap, but we'll delve into that later.
