DROP - a method by which a golfer by rule positions the golf ball on the golf course as a result of lost golf ball or an unplayable lie. Golfer positions the golf ball by holding his arm straight out, shoulder height, and dropping the golf ball.

Drop Area: An area identified by either paint or chalk in which a player may drop his ball under penalty of one stroke. Drop areas are most often found on holes with water hazards and allow the player relief, with penalty, from the water.

drop-- The act of "dropping" a golf ball pursuant to the rules of golf while taking relief or if a ball has been lost, is unplayable, or has been hit into a hazard or out of bounds.
dub-- A mishit golf shot.
duff-- A mishit golf shot.

Drop
When a ball must be lifted under penalty or otherwise, the player, standing erect, holds the ball at arm's length and shoulder height and drops it making sure that it does not land any nearer the hole.

Drop Shot: A type of shot used to extract a ball from tall grass around a green. The club is dropped down severely into the ball in an attempt to drive the ball out of the tall grass and upon the green. The ball usually comes out will little spin.

Drop: To release the ball by hand back into play after it has been removed or pocketed for any number of reasons within the rules of golf.

Drop at the Top
What gets golfers into trouble with the right side is often called "coming over the top." This means that the downswing is being initiated by the upper body, particularly the right shoulder and arm.

DROP - this is a way that you get the ball back in play after hitting a shot into the water or out of bounds. This also happens to waitresses when they carry too many plates.
DUB - a poorly hit shot. I "dubbed" that shot.

To drop a ball, the player faces the hole and drops the ball with arm extended sideways while standing erect. The ball should be dropped as near as possible to the original spot. In a hazard, the ball must come to rest in the hazard.

(2) Drop down a club or two and tee off with a 3, 4 or 5 wood. Keeping the ball in play is the best thing you can do to play better, and feel better about your swing and game.

Drop the ball two clublengths either way, no nearer the hole. One exception, if you are in a bunker, you cannot drop it out. Nice try, Charlie.

I would liken the golf slice to the “drop shot' in tennis. During a long volley one player sometimes attempts a drop shot if their opponent is deep on the baseline.

Add a penalty stroke and drop and play another ball from where you last played; or drop a ball behind the water hazard as far back as you wish.

When you drop a ball, stand erect, hold your arm out straight and drop it.
If your ball is on the green, don't putt with the flagstick in the hole. It will be a penalty stroke if your putt hits the flagstick.

Once a ball has been declared to be 'unplayable' a player will usually opt to 'take a drop'. This means that the player forfeits a stroke in order to drop the ball into a playable position.

With your arms hanging comfortable from your shoulders and the club shaft held parallel to the ground, simply let the club head drop to the ground as your bend forward from your hip sockets. Flex your knees for comfort and balance.

Use the following drill to help: Set up normally, then let your lower hand drop off the shaft. It should fall right across from where you took it off.

Golfers, especially the beginners, usually do not know the proper procedures used to drop their golf ball.

8) You may without penalty pick the ball up and drop it outside the area, within one-club-length of the nearest point of relief which is not nearer the hole.

Do not spend so much time in studying the nature of the ground between the cup and yourself or where you must drop the ball or anything of that sort. Look at the flag and gage the distance and then hit your ball to go that distance.

When removing the flag, don't drop it onto the green, always lower it gently and drop it just outside the green (the player whose ball is closest to the pin has the pin responsibilities).

Sit
Telling the ball to drop softly, and not roll after landing.
Speed
A term used to describe the pace of a putt. Proper 'speed' of a putt will either hole the putt or leave it about 18 inches beyond the cup.

If you are outside of your realistic make range, your goal should be for a drop-in putt. Although spectacular when it goes in, running at the chains from a long ways out is an easy way to lose a stroke by leaving you with a difficult comeback putt.

I guess they let anyone teach now. Hands must drop in and down as fast as possible. Extending your arms is only going to hurt the average golfer since 90% of them cast hte club gettign across the line.
