DUFF - a mis-swing of the golf club were the club head hits the ground behind the golf ball and then tops the golf ball.
DUFFER - a player who lack skill when playing golf.

Duff: To mishit a shot by hitting the ground behind the ball and then top the ball.
Duffer: An unskilled golfer. Also called a hacker

Duff - To miss-hit a shot by hitting the ground behind the ball first and then hitting the top of the ball. The resulting shot does not go far or look very nice. This usually results in a stream of four letter words.

duff: Term used to describe the action of hitting the ground, before making contact with the ball.
duffer: An inexperienced golfer (slang)
dying putt: A putt that barely reaches the hole.
eagle: Two under par for a hole.

dub (also "duff, top") a badly misplayed shot, usually associated with the ball never leaving the ground as a result of hitting the top or side of the ball or hitting the ground well behind the ball ...

On the other side of the coin I have seen the most mature, easy going guys - people who never let a bad shot derail their game, who stay focused through 18 holes - duff, slice, ...

The hard part is over, right? You've boomed a 300-yard drive right down the middle, leaving no more than a short iron into the green. The last thing you want to do is shank, duff, hook or slice, especially considering how well-struck your drive was.
