Even given that situation, they would probably still use other clubs. Many golfers fall back on the argument that they are just having a fun round and using a 3 wood on one hole and a 3 iron on another would go against the grain.

The greater the backspin, the higher the ball will fly and the more it will spin, and therefore stop or even spin backwards on impact with the turf. (The ball had so much backspin that when it hit the green it spun back into the water hazard).
But, even if the shot starts to the left, it may not by playable on a narrow fairway. This is the kind of shot where you aim at the trees on the left and hope the ball doesn.t go into the trees on the right.

Also partners alternate their tee shots, so that one member of each team will always tee-off on the odd holes and the other will tee off on the even holes. (Foursomes are the afternoon matches played on the Friday and Saturday of the Ryder Cup).

The line is obstructed, this may even occur as a result of repositioning the ball, no relief is available. However under BMGA rules the ball may be repositioned, if too close to an obstacle, you may thus gain a line to the hole.
