Face Angle
The position of the club face relative to the intended line of ball flight. A square face angle aligns directly at the target, an open face aligns to the right, while a closed face aligns left. (Assuming right handed golfers.) ...

Face angle is the direction the face points when the head is placed in playing position or soled.
It is a design factor that helps correct minor swing path faults or the inability of the golfer to square the clubface at impact.

Face angle - direction of club face alignment relative to the target line
Fat shot - refers to hitting the ground before striking the ball, hitting behind the ball
Face - The hitting area or surface of the club head.

Keeping the clubface angle square to the target after impact breaks down the left wrist, restricting the left arm rotation. These faults set up a chain reaction creating other faults.

Slice Angle = Clubface Angle + Swing path Angle. On this shot the clubface is square to the target line, but it is open to the outside-to-inside swing path. Although the clubface is square to the target you will get a slice! ...

"using" the hands thru impact -- means CHANGING the path of the stroke and/or the face angle of the putter, while the putter head in physics is doing all it can despite you to go straight and square thru the impact zone.

The heel-toe-weighted model pictured above creates a true plumb only when it's held with the face angled slightly away from the golfer (above, right).

To beat your slice, you first need to determine if it's your downswing path or your clubface angle at impact that's faulty, or both. This can be determined by analyzing your divots and ballflight characteristics.

Instructor Charlie King on getting the right club-face angle
This video lesson covers what Reynolds Golf Academy Instructor Charlie King calls "golf's No. 1 tip for hitting the ball to the target" - club-face awareness.

You may struggle with the club face angle at impact at first, but give it some practice and you’ll get it figured out quick.

The face angle of the club has a major effect on accuracy off the tee. Face angles of drivers are open, square or closed. Closed face drivers come 1-6 degrees closed. Slicers need closed face drivers for correction.

The other two positions (open and closed) will result in an incorrect club face angle at the top and unless some correction is made in the downswing the blade will also be mis-aligned at impact....and inaccuracy is bound to be the result.

Simplify your sand play by focusing on a few minor set-up adjustments and your clubface angle at address. These changes will allow you to vary your swing and therefore control the trajectory and distance of sand shots.

Having your hand placed at the waiters hand position, this will make the golf club swing on the right swing plane while maintaining the best club face angle.

Right away, the appearance of the club is less lofted and the face pointing more down to the ball. This face angle is much stronger than the original one and once we take our grip from there, we can accomplish two things: ...
