Fat Shot: When the club hits the ground behind the ball. This results in high or low shots with a loss of distance
Featherie: An old leather ball stuffed with compressed feathers. Replaced by the gutta percha after 1848. Also spelled feathery.

Hooded Club - Turning the club face slightly inward in order to hook the ball or prevent a slice.

FAT SHOT - this is a shot which is not good. The club hits the ground behind the ball and results in a poorly struck shot that usually doesn't go very far.

"FAT SHOTS"
Let's make things simple: if you're hitting fat shots, your swing is bottoming out too early. The golf swing is essentially U-shaped and the bottom of your U is occurring before the ball, causing you to hit the ground first.

Fat: A fat shot is the result of striking the ground before the ball resulting in reduced power and distance — opposite of hitting a shot thin.

FAT SHOTS
Hitting it fat? Like a thin shot, you've got to stop trying to lift the ball into the air! Allow the club's loft to handle the lifting, and concentrate on getting your weight off your right side on the downswing.

Chunk A poor shot caused by hitting the turf well behind the ball, resulting in a fat shot. (The defending champion's defense ended when he chunked his tee shot on the par-3 16th and hit the ball into the pond guarding the green).

If you are struggling through a round hitting fat shots (hitting under the ball) and/or topped shots (hitting near the top of the ball) your problem may be an incorrect weight shift.

If you struggle with this shot, you probably swing the golf club to vertical into the ground and hit a fat shot. Before you prepare for an uphill lie, you need to think of a few important items first. Make sure you take a less lofted club.

In his golf swing he was taking big divots (fat shot) with tendency to hit pull hooks (shots that travel left).

A closed stance can lead to hooks, pushed, and fat shots, an open stance to slices, pulls, and topped shots.

For the average player having the head over the back foot will lead to hitting fat shots. The weight will be on the back foot and to try and stop hitting it fat the player will then try to swing upward on the ball.

Fat: Shot type in which a player hits behind the ball, resulting in a much shorter shot than normal. Fat shots are often characterized by a player taking an excessive divot.

chili-dip A shot in which a player hits behind the ball, not moving it very far. Also called a fat shot or a chunk.

Standing too far away: This causes the upper body to lose the proper frame, as you become hunched over the ball. The results can vary from hitting behind the ball, fat shots or standing up as you swing through, causing topped or thin shots.

will be effective as long as you hit the ball before the ground. To ensure that you do, strive for a full, in-balance finish; this will encourage acceleration through the ball, and reduce your chances of swinging too steeply (and hitting a fat shot).

The dreaded dropkick and/or scoop at impact are evident when the clubhead is ahead of the hands at impact. When the bottom of the swing is behind the ball, you'll hit fat shots. When the clubhead is on its way up at impact, you'll hit thin shots.
