You're playing a shot from off the green. Your ball rolls right at the cup. You just know it's going in. Then it hits the flagstick and ... just hangs there. Stuck. Pinned between the flagstick and the cup. Neither in nor out.
What's the ruling?

Flagstick: The pole in the centre of the green with a flag attached.
Flange: The base of a club, the part that rests on the ground.
Flex: The degree that a club's shaft bends upon impact with the ball.

Flagstick
A flagstick is the pole with a banner on top that extends up from the hole of each green. Its function is to help golfers see where to aim.

Flagstick
Also called the pin, flag, or stick, the flagstick marks the hole.

The part of the swing beyond impact with the ball.

Flagstick
The 'flagstick'' is a movable straight indicator, with or without bunting or other material attached, centred in the hole to show its position. It must be circular in crosssection.

Use the Flagstick
Most golfers have trouble keeping their putteron the proper line during the stroke. Try using a flagstick to help define the path of your putting stroke.

To properly tend a flagstick, grab the flag, hold the stick upright and stand to the side from which you will not cast a shadow over the cup.

Cup The container in the hole holds the flagstick in pace. Cuppy A deep and enclosed lie. Cut The score that reduces the field to a pre-determined number and eliminates players in a tournament.

Flagstick
A tall marker used to indicate the position of the hole on a green. The flagstick is often a metal pole with a small flag at the top. The "pin" is often used as slang for "flagstick.

Green: The culmination of a golf hole, where the flagstick and cup are located and where a golfer will "putt out" to end the hole. A ball is in the green when any part of it is touching the green.

Do not fling or drop the flagstick to the green when it no longer needs to be tended but lay it down. If you have a bad back, use your putter to gently lower it to the ground;

If your ball is on the green, don't putt with the flagstick in the hole. It will be a penalty stroke if your putt hits the flagstick.
If your ball hits another ball and moves it, you must play your ball as it lies.

Also keep the flag from waving in the wind by holding it against the flagstick. Position yourself with both feet together away from the hole. Bend the flagstick slightly if you have to keep your feet out of another player's line.

If your ball is off the green, there is no penalty if you play and your ball strikes the flagstick, provided no one is holding the flagstick.
If your ball is on the green, do not putt with the flagstick in the hole.

If the eyes are focused on the flagstick rather than the spot, backswings get to long and have to slow down thru impact to land the ball on the spot.

A player may at any time have the flagstick attended, removed or held up to indicate the position of the hole.

A reasonably high shot onto the green, traveling anything from a few yards to 120 yards (110m). You generally use a 9 iron, a pitching wedge, or a sand wedge.
