Flier
A type of lie where the ball is in the rough and grass is likely to become trapped between the ball and the clubface at the moment of impact.

Flier: When a ball travels further than expected when using a given club, sometimes happens when playing from the rough or off a slope.
Flight: A ball is in flight when traveling through the air.

flier-- A golf shot that is hit with less spin than normal (or mishit) causing the ball to travel further than usual.

Flier: Shot, usually hit from the rough, that travels way too far past the target.
Fly the Green: To hit a shot that lands beyond the putting surface.
Follow-Through: The part of the swing after the ball has been struck.

Follow-through: The continuation of the swing after impact has been made with the ball.

Flyer (Flier) - A shot that flies substantially longer than desired, usually as a result of too much grass between the club face and ball. Flyers are more common from the rough than from the shorter fairway grasses.

To counter the increased "flier" effect, use less club than you would normally require, set-up and swing as for maximum height, and allow for extra run.

Rough tends to take backspin off the ball and create a "flier" that goes farther and takes longer to stop. Adjust your target to allow for the added roll.
5. Use a Steeper Approach ...

flier: A shot hit from rough that travels too far, because of the grass stopping the action of the grooves.
fluff: As duff Term used to describe the action of hitting the ground, before making contact with the ball.

It not only can make your clubs look better, it can help your game. Dirty clubs can cause "flier" lies so your shots are harder to control. Clean grooves will put more spin on the ball thereby helping to hold more greens.
