four ball-- A golf game format where two 2-person teams compete against each other using the one best score from each side.
four-iron-- An iron with slightly more loft than a 3-iron, but slightly less than a 5-iron.

Four Ball: A type of match in which two players play their better ball against the better ball of two other players.

Place four balls around a hole at the four points of the compass, north, south, east and west. This drill is better if the hole is on a slope so that you get a putt that turns each way.

Place four balls at putter length in a cross-like pattern from the hole. The objective is to hole all four putts consecutively. If you miss one, start over.

Start by taking four balls, making a circle approximately 5 feet from the hole. When you make three out of four from that distance move your circle outward a foot or two.

- Arrange four balls in a diamond with two feet between each ball. The top ball of the diamond should be on the target line. Tee up the rear ball-this is the one you'll hit.

In Australia, it might be called Irish Four Ball. In the U.K., a bowmaker. In the United States, 1-2-3 best ball or money ball, among other possible names and variations.

Presented to the winner of the two-yearly match between two teams of mens professionals representing the USA and Europe. Each team comprises 12 players, who play a combination of foursomes, four balls and singles spread over three days of competition.
