half shot-- A shot executed with less than a full swing.
halved-- A golf match that ends in a tie. Typically both teams will split the points normally awarded to the match winner.

handicap The number of strokes a player may deduct from his actual score to adjust his scoring ability to the level of a scratch golfer.

Half Shot: Improvised shot with ordinarily too much club for the distance.

After some practice swings, begin hitting half shots and then full shots. Concentrate on feeling the release and try to duplicate that action when you hit balls with your normal grip. Let your arms roll naturally.

Quarter Shot: A shot made with a reduced swing, less than that for a half shot.
