Holing Out ...

Corey holed out twice from bunkers and chipped in once from the heavy rough around the green. It showed me first-hand that a superior short game is where shooting lower scores starts. Please read the tips below and start seeing your handicap go down.

Tiger Woods holed a remarkable 24-foot putt at the 18th to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill as he continued his six-month winning streak.

Both balls are holed (see Definition of "Holed") and there are no penalties incurred by either player.
It is a breach of Etiquette for the first player to leave his ball in the hole if the second player has asked him to remove it.

You alternate driving regardless of who holed out on the previous hole.
Scruff - To misplay the ball by hitting or grazing the ground with the clubhead. prior to hitting the ball.
Scratch - Par play. A zero handicap.

The first player tees off, the second player hits the second shot, the first player hits the third shot, and so on until the ball is holed.

Hook - An often unintentional, uncontrolled shot which flies from right to left ...

This procedure continues until the ball is holed.
Scratch golfer---a golfer with a zero handicap or one who shoots par for a round of golf.

Inevitably he holed the putt for an eagle and they were all square. Pumped up, Woods was big off the par three 13th tee and Mickelson birdied to take a shot lead again.

Some teachers, notably Harvey Penick, say that every putt should be holed out, as this makes you less likely over time to miss by much.

When Bob Tway holed his explosion to beat me at Inverness, he played from this type of bunker. In hard-bottomed bunkers such as this, the ball rarely buries, but you have to be careful nonetheless.

If nerve or will power would have holed putts for me I should never have missed a putt. I simply worked from a false theory.

If your opponent has already holed out and your putt is to halve the hole, you must be very aggressive with the putt. If you run it 10 feet past, it doesn't matter - the hole is lost whether you miss by 10 feet or 1/10th of an inch.

We had a player that was scared to death of chipping and after working with him doing exactly what I have described above he went out the next day on the golf course and holed four chip shots! ...

red score
A fair to middling score for a single round of minigolf (e.g., a score of 25-29 on eternit or a score of 36 to 39 at White Rock Gardens, Hastings).

Snake: A long putt; one that is usually holed from a long distance.
Snap hook: A shot that starts quickly to the left and angles sharply downwards and further to the left generally producing a very short and undesirable result.

* Personal Par: your par for that hole based upon your handicap (e.g. if your handicap is 18, your personal par is one over the designated par for each hole) ...

Snake - A long putt; one that is usually holed from a long distance.
Spot Putting - Aiming not directly at the hole, but a place on the green so the ball will roll into the hole.

A match that has partners alternating hitting the same ball. They also alternate driving regardless of who holed out on the previous hole.
scramble
A team competition where players play the best ball of a team member after every stroke or drive.

Baby talk for "give me," a putt of two feet or less that a friendly opponent declares does not have to be holed out.
Grain
The angle at which the grass of a green grows. Putting "against the grain" requires more effort than "with the grain." ...

Leave the putting green as soon as all players in your group have holed out.
4 Invite faster groups to play through.
5 Replace divots. Smooth footprints in bunkers.
6 Don't step on the line of another player's putt.

The ball is on play once the player starts his downswing on the teeing area. It continues to be so until holed out, lost, out of bounds or lifted.
Ball Mark
The mark left by the ball when it pitches on the fairway or green.

As soon as a golfer has taken their first shot of the tee, the ball is in play. It is in play until it is holed, apart from when it is lifted, lost, substituted in agreement with the rules or if it is out of bounds.

Always the score is not accurate, because the last missed putt is pretended as if holed out.

Gimme : A putt that is short enough in length to be certain to be holed with the next stroke. Example: Great putt Abby! That next one (the putt) is a gimme.

In Play - A ball is "in play" as soon as the player has make a stroke on the teeing ground. It remains in play as his ball until holed out, except when it is out of bounds, lost, or lifted, ...

A ball is in play as soon as the player has made a stroke in the tee off area. It remains in play until it is holed out, lost, hit out of bounds, or lifted when allowed by the rules of golf.

Once a player cannot beat his partner's nett score, then the ball should be picked up. If both players record the same nett score, then the player who first holed-out is marked on the card as scoring.

Nick Faldo sinks a 100 foot (30 m) birdie putt on the second hole at Augusta National in the Masters, the longest putt holed to date in a major tournament. Faldo goes on to win the Masters.

Very short putt close to a hole, awarded by other players. Only used in match play, or in friendly golf - in stroke play everything must be holed out.

In Play: A balls is considered “in play' and subject to the rules of the game from the time it is hit off the tee until it is holed.

The ball in the best position is selected after each shot, and the process starts all over again, until the ball is putted/holed out. This format is good for beginners, as it alleviates the pressure of playing with better players.

In a scramble, each golfer tees off, then they all play from the spot where the best shot landed. They continue this until the ball is holed out. This allows bad shots to be ignored and takes the pressure off less skilled golfers.

Pinch Shot: A shot played around the green in which a player strikes the ball with a crisp, clean descending blow. (She pinched the ball off a perfect lie and holed the shot).

In a Chapman, both partners play a tee shot at every hole from their designated tee. Each player then plays their partner's ball for the second shot. The team selects the ball they wish to continue with and they play it alternately until it is holed.

So if A's tee-shot is selected, the playing order from the tee will be A-B-A-B etc until the ball is holed out. If player B's tee-shot is selected, the playing order will be B-A-B-A etc. The team with the lowest score wins the hole.

as a team, in which all players play from one position. For example, a team of 4 players all hit drives. The next shot is played, again by all 4 players, from the position of the best drive. Play continues in this manner until the ball is holed.

First, place a few golf balls one-to-two feet from the cup on the practice green. Make your normal stance, and then with no backswing, start pushing the ball toward the hole. Hold the finish until the ball is holed.

Smith said "That was a bird of shot" and claimed he should get double money if he won with one under par, which was agreed. He duly holed his putt to win with one under par and the three of them thereafter referred to such a score as a "birdie".
