Hooding

Golf HoodHook

Hooding: The act of placing the hands ahead of the ball, both at address and impact, which tends to reduce the effective loft of the club.

Hooding the Club
Turning the club face slightly inward in order to hook the ball, keep it lower or prevent a slice.

HOODING THE CLUB
Shutting the face of the club, usually by playing the ball closer to the right foot than normal.
HOOK ...

The "Hooding" Solution. The "hooding" action of Horton Smith and others was occasioned by the "gating" stroke path of the day, and has three separate components: vertical face, square face, and low face.

Fault: Hooding The Face
Fix: Create Some Wrist Cup
When you're hooded, the leading edge of the clubface is parallel to the ground. It leads to hooks, pushes and low shots. The Fix: Don't be afraid to let your left wrist cup a bit.

(2) Hooding the clubface at address
(3) Picking the club straight up in the air, then chopping down on the ball, reducing the effective loft of a sand wedge to that of a 9-iron.

Next, to maintain good balance, use a slightly wider stance than normal and play the ball slightly behind the center of your stance, with your hands well forward, slightly "hooding" the club face.

Hooding - closing the club face at impact, (left for right handers)
Hook - To hit the ball in a manner that causes it to curve from right to left in the case of a right-handed player.
