Golf Hook Explained
For golfers that slice the ball regularly, the golf draw or even a hook seems like the holy grail. The golf slice has more of a negative connotation, while the golf hook seems to be held in higher regard.

If you hook or slice the ball, it's probably because you are using the wrong hand to control club-face rotation through the impact zone.

Hook
For right-handed golfers, a hook curves from right to left. This type of shot tends to roll farther than a sliced shot. To hit a hook, the clubface must be closed in relation to the target line at impact.

Hook
A poor shot that, for a right-handed golfer, curves sharply to the left (may occasionally be played intentionally but is difficult to control).

Hook: Type of shot, for a right-handed golfer, that often starts to the right of the target and curves dramatically to the left, usually ending much more left of target than desired. A hook is normally considered to be a non-desirable shot.

Hook
A term often used for a right-to-left (for a right-handed player) ball curve trajectory that is pronounced and unintentional. Created by a significant tilt of the spin-axis to the left.

hook-- For a right-handed player, to hit the ball so that its flight path curves from the right to the left (or from left to right for a left-handed player) in a pronounced manner.

Hook - For the right-handed golfer, it is a golf shot that curves strongly from right to left. Moreover, for the right-handed golfer, this shot usually lands left of their target (the direction would be opposite for the left-handed golfer).

Duck Hook: To induce too much topspin onto the ball causing in to move from outside to in on your swing. Normally caused by turning your body to quickly through your swing.

To cure the hook, the player should concentrate more on trying to swing straight down the target line. In fact, you should actually learn how to cut or slice the ball.

Bobby Locke's "Hook Stroke" is Inside-to-Square. The opposite of a Mayfair-style cut stroke is usually thought of as the Bobby Locke "hook stroke.

Purpose
To learn the effects of different swingpaths. An outside to inside swingpath will cause a slice (or a shot pulled left if the clubface is closed).

The hook is the worst shot in golf (I don't consider a shank a shot)-it is totally out of control, unless it is hit with intention. A draw isn't too far from a hook, so at times, it may actually become one.

Sharon pulls the ball to the left, and then it curves even farther left (a pull-hook) and lands far from the intended target.

You can stop scratching your head in disbelief after you hook that drive or miss the green because even the best players aren't perfect. Permission to make mistakes will also allow you to focus on your future shots, instead of dwelling on the past.
