Line up your usual way, then place your club down so that the shaft rests on the ground against your toes. Then stand back at least 15 feet. Now see if you're lined up to where you think you were.

If you are a slicer, you should line up on the right side of the tee box.

USE THE PUTTER SHAFT AS A VISUAL RULER TO LINE UP THE BALL AND TARGET AND SHOW YOU THE ACTUAL GRASS BLADES OF THE LINE.

When you bend the left knee have it come in a very little bit toward the base line upon which you are standing. Bend only the least bit, however, or you will overdo it. Keep your left heel on the ground if you can comfortably.

Not only is it vital to practice setting up the ball, but you also need to make sure you line up correctly towards your target. It's easy to make the mistake of pointing offline or to start opening or closing your stance unintentionally.

Line up your putter, hanging freely between your thumb and index finger, behind your ball so that it matches up with the flag pin. With your dominant eye open, you will see that the ball is to the left, right, or straight on. Straight on, no break.

On shots to the green line up to the center of the green. If the ball should fade or draw,you are still on the green.

The ball should be played off the inside of your forward foot and line up with the logo on your shirt or left breast. The only thing that changes is your stance (back foot) widens for drives and longer shots and narrows for shorter shots.

How to Practice
Take 10 balls and line up a straight putt of about 4 feet as I am in the photo above.

Practice with an alignment aid of some kind and start using an intermediate target to line up all your shots. You won't have alignment problems any more.

Fortunately, there are some "Tips" that will go a long way in helping you line up our putts: and do it without wasting much time.

If you break down with your lead wrist, the handle will line up with your rear arm and the tee will be visible between your arms. Hit chips and pitches and check your finish to achieve a flat lead wrist and a bent rear wrist.

Next time you're in a bunker, focus on sliding a thin "divot" of sand from under the ball and onto the green. Open the clubface a few degrees (clockwise) and line up slightly to the left. "Splash" the sand toward the target and the ball will follow! ...

Thus, the Rules do not limit the type of markings a player may put on the ball (i.e. arrows, lines, words, etc). Additionally, there is no penalty for using such lines to "line up" prior to a stroke on the putting green or any place else on the ...
