Lip: The edge (or rim) of the hole.
Lip Out: A ball as it is rolling on a putting green, that hits the edge of the hole and does not go in.

lob shot Usually played with a wedge, it is a shot with a near vertical trajectory, with little to no forward role.

lob shot A shot that goes straight up and comes almost straight down with very little spin or forward momentum. Useful when there is not much green to play to.

Lip Out : A shot that comes close to falling into the hole but doesn't as the lip causes it to change direction usually fairly dramatically. Example: I lipped out my par putt and had to settle for bogie.

LOB SHOT - a shot that goes straight up in the air and stops very quickly on the green.

Tight Near Lip of Trap
If you need to get the ball up fast out of a trap, try starting the back swing by cocking your wrists upward followed by the normal back swing. The down swing is the same but you release the wrists (uncock them) before impact.

Over The Lip
When the lip of the bunker is higher than your head, your goal should be simply to get the ball out of the hazard on the first try. One of the keys to accomplishing this is creating a setup that produces a high shot.

Back Lip The edge of the bunker that is farthest from the green. Back Nine The last 9 holes of an 18 hole course. Backspin A reverse spin placed on the ball to make in stop short on the putting surface.

Optimal Ball Delivery Speed to Maximize Sinks -- The optimal delivery speed of the ball as it crosses the front lip of the cup is one that most reasonably balances three considerations: 1.

lip: The edge of a cup or bunker.
lip-out: When the ball rolls and touches the hole, but does not fall in.
local knowledge: Members knowledge gained from continuous play on the same course.

When taking on this shot be sure the club you are using has sufficient loft to get the ball over the front lip of the bunker. You do not want to strike the ball perfectly only to see it smash into the face of the bunker and dribble back to your feet.

Make sure you choose a club that has enough loft to clear the forward lip of the bunker. Never more than a four-wood. You may not get to the green but at least you will get out of the bunker. Swing with your normal rhythm so you stay under control.

With the exception of a newly-installed hazard to the right of the third, the only club you can take into them is a sand wedge - and if you're up against the lip, sideways is your only option.

Choose enough loft on club to clear the lip of the bunker and hit the ball and try for shallow divot and follow through.

For example, you have five minutes to search for a ball before you must take the lost-ball penalty; if a putt hangs on the lip of the cup, you have 10 seconds following your walk to the cup to wait for it to fall.

Is it dangerous? You bet it is. Take the least bit of sand and you won't get halfway to the green; skull the ball and you'll either hit the lip of the bunker or sail it over the green. But it's worth a try.

Holed---when the entire ball is below the lip of the cup, the golfer is finished with that hole.
Honors---the person who has the right to tee off first.
