Mid iron - An iron club no longer is use, somewhat more lofted than a driving iron.
The alternative name would be the number two iron.
Mid mashie - The alternative name would be the number three iron.

For mid irons you want to have the ball in the middle of your stance and for long irons you want it slightly further forward.
Wedges
When hitting a wedge you want a slightly narrower stance and the ball should be in the middle of your stance.

Although the 5-iron also is called a Mid iron. The other Mid irons are the 6-iron and the 7-iron, with a slightly higher loft. Long irons have a longer shaft, and less loft, but commonly they are somewhat lighter than short irons.

You hit your short and mid irons very well, but the long irons let you down. A key swingthought that works for many people is to imagine hitting your 8-iron while you are actually swinging a 3 or 4 iron.

middle iron (also "mid iron, mid-iron") generally irons 5 through 7, which are in the middle of the range of irons in terms of length, loft, etc.
