This is a fairly easy shot to get out of the bunker, but difficult to get close to the hole.

 


Plugged Lie
A bad lie (typically in a bunker) where the ball is at least half-buried in sand. Also known as a "buried lie" or a "fried egg".

Plugged Lie: When the ball finishes half-buried in the turf or a bunker.
Plumb-Bob: Lining up a putt with one eye closed and the putter held vertically in front of the face.
Pop-Up: High, short shot.

Plugged Ball: A ball that when it lands remains in its own pitch mark.
Plumb Bob: Holding the putter in a vertical position and using it as a sight to determine the Line of Putt.

Plugged Lie: The condition when the ball comes to rest in its own pitch mark, usually in a bunker or soft turf. (The ball plugged in the bunker, resulting in a difficult shot).

Plugged Lie Escaping from a plugged lie requires keeping your clubface square (the only time you'll do so when hitting out of the bunker).

Ball imbedded in its own pitch mark in the ground. It may be dropped without penalty no closer to the hole.

For plugged lies, keep more weight on left foot to let the club dig into the sand. Play the ball in the middle with a square club face and shaft leaning toward target. You don't have to swing hard.

Pop up - A short, high shot.

Ball Embedded A techinical term for a plugged ball. Ball Holed A ball is holed when it is entirely below the level of the lip of the hole. Ball in Play A ball is in play as soon as the player has made a stroke in the tee off area.

Example: Ted's ball was plugged in the bunker to the point where it was barely visible. 2. After the greens were aerated there were plugs lying everywhere, so putting was problematic.

ball embedded-- A golf ball that lands and sticks in the ground making it very difficult or impossible to hit. Also may be called a plugged ball.
ball holed-- A ball that has been successfully stroked into the cup.
