Veteran golf teachers will usually agree that amateurs generally try to use the wedge far too often around the greens from 2-10 feet out. Your decision on club selection should be based on.

PUTTING GREEN - the surface area around the hole that is specially prepared for putting.

Putter - a disc used primarily for putting, but can be used for approach shots or short drives. Putters are designed to fly straighter at slow speeds and are built for pinpoint accuracy rather than raw distance.

A putter that, when balanced toward the shaft tip, will exhibit the property of the putter face being parallel to the ground line. Face balanced putters tend to be favored by players who employ a straight back-straight through putting stroke.

A Putter. Putters can come in all different shapes and sizes but they all have something in common, they all have flat faces. When the Ball is hit it rolls the Ball along the ground, this is the definition of a Putt.

The putter is the club in your bag that has a completely flat side and a flat base. Putters come in all shapes, sizes and colors. Putters are intended to roll the ball along the ground and are typically used when on or near the green.

The putter is the best stroke saving club in your bag. Most golfers use a third of their total score - that's 30-35 shots per round on the putting green. And most can get better with practice.

Get a putter with a very distinct line marked on it to indicate the target line and practice with a chalk line. You can get a chalk line at any hardware store for 5 or 6 bucks, and it's as valuable a training aid as there is anywhere.

Belly Putter
Ype of putter in which the butt of the grip is positioned against the player's stomach in order to create a pendulum effect. Most belly putters are @40" in length. Popularized by Vijay Singh and Paul Azinger, among others on the PGA Tour.

BELLY PUTTER - A putter that is longer than the standard and rests against the belly during the stroke.
