The Pre-Shot Routine
A valuable step in the development of a golfer
by Mark Blakemore, PGA Professional ...

Pre-Shot Routine
Planning the shot ahead, approach from behind the ball. Pick an intermediate target. Aiming at something new a few feet away is easier and more accurate than aiming at 200 yards away.

To make the shot success-fully do not attempt to turn up the wrists when your club is in the turf, but, on the contrary, turn the hands over-as in all the iron shots-as though you were trying to push the toe of the club deeper into the ground.

Long Sand Shot
Fairway bunkers are a nemesis to most golfers.
The key here is to take as long a club as possible that will get over the lip of the bunker or sand trap.

This point and shot concept will have you hitting more tee shots where you want them to go, increase your confidence off the tee, and bring your game to the next level. Try this shortcut on your next round and you will see a difference almost at once.

The most common shot among the amateur playing field is the slice. More than 70 percent of all my golf students have or do struggle with this problem.

Downhill Chip Shot

Several of the greens at The Bridges are set into the hillside, testing your ability to chip down to the putting surface.

When you hit a good shot, soak it in! Watch the ball's flight and how it lands and rolls. Hold your finish and try to mentally reinforce what the swing felt like.

I can bring into my mind now a 6 iron championship winning shot.
They can do this for the following reason. When they were previously out playing and they hit a bad six iron shot, they put the club back in the bag and thought no more of it.

What this will do is force you to control the golf shot with your left (dominant) hand. Your left hand has to lead the golf swing. If you can follow a dance metaphor, the man leads in a dance step, and the woman just follows the lead of the man.
