Square Face: Clubface looking directly at the hole at address/impact.
Square Grooves: USGA banned them from clubfaces.
St. Andrews: Located in Fife, Scotland, the home of golf.

Square Face
A square face and open face are not exactly the same thing. By square, what I'm referring to is keeping the clubface square to the upper body, not the target.

In addition to a square face at impact and proper forearm rotation, the combination of clubhead design, loft, shaft flex and kick-point, and golf ball play a substantial role in the delivery of distance.

- BOTH The long-running and never-ending debate over whether the stroke path should be straight-back-straight-through or inside-square-inside detracts from the true fundamental of "a square face moving square thru impact".

EXAMPLE: You aim for the middle of a 30 yard wide fairway using a square face driver, but your ball ends up 5 yards in the rough.

If you need distance, you can address this ball with a square face, since from wet sand you don't have to worry about digging too deeply.

The position of the club face relative to the intended line of ball flight. A square face angle aligns directly at the target, an open face aligns to the right, while a closed face aligns left. (Assuming right handed golfers.)
Face Balanced ...

square face: The club being at 90 degrees to the ball to target line.
stableford: A method of scoring by using points rather than strokes.
stance: The relationship of the body to the ball at address.

The pitch stroke involves added power from wrist hinge and requires body rotation toward the target on the forward swing and a grip that produces a square face at impact. These are key elements that will help in the full swing.

A slightly "cupped" wrist and blade angle at about 30 degrees off the vertical. A correct grip, a square face at address, a free swing of the left hand and arm (without wrist roll) in the backswing, ...

The draw/fade of the shots is determined by the angle of the clubface at impact. At impact...Square face = back spin, straight ball flight. Closed face= = counter clockwise spin, right to left ball flight.
