You're playing a shot from off the green. Your ball rolls right at the cup. You just know it's going in. Then it hits the flagstick and ... just hangs there. Stuck. Pinned between the flagstick and the cup. Neither in nor out.
What's the ruling?

stick-- Short for flagstick. Also known as the pin.
stimpmetre-- A tool used to measure the speed of a green. A reading of five to six indicates a slow green, seven to eight a medium one, nine to 10 fast, and greater than 11 very fast.

Stick: The pin in the hole.
Stimp: Term given to the speed of a green after measurement with a specialized piece of equipment (Stimpmeter.) The higher the Stimp reading, the faster the green.

The 'flagstick'' is a movable straight indicator, with or without bunting or other material attached, centred in the hole to show its position. It must be circular in crosssection.

Stick a tee in the end of the grip of a 7 or 8-iron. Now make some short swings, allowing your wrists to cock on the back swing so the tee points at the ground. Do the same on a short follow through, making sure the tee points at the ground.

Sticking my neck out further than I should, I would doubt if Tiger would permit him to win at Muirfield. The Open at Muirfield has always produced well seasoned as well as quality champions. Quality, Garcia may be, seasoned he is not.

Stick all this information in the back of your mind, marked with a small red flag that pops up whenever you face an uphill pitch somewhere around the green.

Stick a tee into the end of your putter grip. As you take your stroke, make sure that the tee stays even or slightly ahead of the putter head throughout the stroke.

A ball which is level with the pin, but to one side.

Flagstick Shadow Drill. Ditto along the shadow of the flagstick, combined with putting balls into the cup when the flagstick shadow happens to indicate a straight putt.

But, sticking to those fundamentals once your learn them seems awfully tough for many golfers --- usually because they can't resist the promise of a new idea.

The flagstick should be properly replaced in the hole before the players leave the putting green.
Players should not damage the putting green by leaning on the putters, particularly when removing the ball from the hole.

There is no magic stick here, practice is the only way to improve and by improving you will automatically reduce your handicap either by observation from the golfing committee you belong to or by winning a prise or two.

Cup The container in the hole holds the flagstick in pace. Cuppy A deep and enclosed lie. Cut The score that reduces the field to a pre-determined number and eliminates players in a tournament.

Pin - another name for flagstick.
Pitch - short, high shot to the green.
Punch - shot which flies low to the ground.
Putt - shot played with a putter on the green.
Putter - a straight-faced club used on the green.
Rough - long grass.

When you do choose the shape of your shot, stick with it. While there may be pros who can switch back and forth hitting accurate fades and draws, that mastery is beyond most mortals.

In order to find the correct stance width, place a yardstick at your feet and perform the same drill again. Mark down on a piece of paper the widths that allow your hands and arms to hang exactly the same.

If your ball is on the green, don't putt with the flagstick in the hole. It will be a penalty stroke if your putt hits the flagstick.
If your ball hits another ball and moves it, you must play your ball as it lies.

Ask your competitor if they need the stick tended. When tending the pin, be careful not to cast a shadow over the player's line. Also keep the flag from waving in the wind by holding it against the flagstick.

The job of the caddy is to mark the ball with a towel, stick, etc. so that the golfer does not have to waste time searching for it.

Games involving balls and sticks have been prevalent in practically every civilisation since the dawn of time.

If your ball is off the green, there is no penalty if you play and your ball strikes the flagstick, provided no one is holding the flagstick.
If your ball is on the green, do not putt with the flagstick in the hole.

If the eyes are focused on the flagstick rather than the spot, backswings get to long and have to slow down thru impact to land the ball on the spot.

A sucker pin is a flagstick that is positioned perilously close to a bunker, a water hazard, out of bounds, a steep drop-off, or any area of extremely heavy rough.

when the Roman emperors played a game called paganica using a bent stick to drive a soft, feather-stuffed ball (or feathery). This ball was up to 7 in (17.5 cm) in diameter, much larger than the Scottish version.

But if you stick with it, you'll develop a better swing, which will translate into better scores and more enjoyment. Anyone who plays golf would love to improve, whether they will admit it or not.

I have been using Tiger 2011 with the Chicken Stick and with some players at some holes I can drive 305 yards in this game but usually about 270. I can get some pars and a few birdies so I would really like to know how your son does it.
