Stroke play is a scoring system for golf (compare to match play). Another term for stroke play is medal play. Stroke play is the scoring system for the vast majority of professional golf tournaments. (For a notable exception, see The INTERNATIONAL.) ...

Stroke Plane Trainers. Two putting training aids have recently come on the market based upon the Conics mathematics of Apollonius of Perga from ancient Greece. Each is designed to train an effective stroke plane for a stright roll.

Stroke Play Using Handicaps
There are examples above of two different ways to mark the scorecard when using handicaps in stroke play. The top version is the more common, at least among players with lower handicaps.

Chipping Stroke
The chipping motion is similar to the putting stroke. Keep weight left, wrists firm and in front of clubhead. The goal is to get the ball on the green as soon as possible, rolling toward the hole.

To know which stroke is best for you be sure to experiment with your eye line setup, but have the right tool in your hand to complete the job.

Stroke
A 'stroke'' is the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke.

stroke and distance Penalty assessed for a ball hit out of bounds or for a lost ball. It involves going back to the spot of the original ball, hitting another ball from that location, and adding a penalty shot to the score.

Competition based on the number of strokes taken by each player; also called medal play.

Stroke
Your putting stroke should be dominated by the shoulders and arms and involve as little wrist movement as possible. Minimize body movement, and try not to shift weight or turn the hips.

How are strokes given when hole handicaps are 1 through 9?
When playing an 18-hole match on a 9-hole course or a course where the hole handicaps are given as 1 through 9 for each nine, the first handicap stroke is given at the no.

Strokeplay
This is when you count every shot you play and add up your total amount at the end. This is called your gross score. If you have a handicap you would minus that from your Gross score leaving you with your Nett score.

Stroke or medal play is more common. In this competition the player with the fewest number of strokes for the whole 18-hole round wins.

Stroke play - This is when the outcome of a game is decided on by the number of strokes a player takes to complete
a round of golf against his competitors. The player with the least number of strokes being the winner.

STROKE - this is often used in the following context, "how many STROKES are you giving me" which means how many shots or additional swings are you giving me to even out the match.

Stroke and Distance
A penalty in which the golfer is penalized a stroke and has to play the shot again, thus is also penalized the distance the first ball was hit.

A stroke play game in which each player has a flag. When the player has played the number of strokes equal to the par of the course plus his handicap, he places a flag in the course at that point.

Slightly higher grassy area surrounding the putting surface. Also known as the fringe.

In stroke play, the player incurs a penalty of two strokes (Rule 15-3b). The stroke played with the wrong ball does not count in his score for the hole.

A lie in which the ball is cupped in deep grass.

Every stroke counts in golf. A 300 yard drive and a 1 foot putt count just the same on the scorecard, so saving as many strokes as possible is the name of the game. Within that game, achieving a golf score closest to par is the next goal.

Extra stroke(s) added to a player's score for violation of the rules, loss of ball, out of bounds, etc...

Flagstick.

Add one stroke penalty to your score if you and your teammate both hit the ball out of bounds, in a water hazard or lose your ball.

Birdie One stroke less than par. Cart path The path provided by the golf course for your cart. It's intended to make sure the traffic moves in a consistent pattern and protects the rest of the golf course.

So use the strokes you are given.
Get Your Retaliation in First
It is often an advantage in matchplay to play first.
If you can hit a good shot it puts pressure on your opponent to match or better your effort.

(7) Finally stroke some 10-15 putts on the putting green, before leaving for the first tee. If there is no practice range, push a tee into the ground away from the teeing area and warm up by swinging over the tee.

Penalty: Stroke(s) assessed when a ball is hit into a specific area either on (water hazard) or off (out of bounds) the course. Penalties may also be assessed for specific violations as defined by the Rules of Golf.

These wasted strokes are easy to get rid of if you just know how.
